Notice: The WISD does not perform random drug testing without the written consent of the parent/guardian or the student. Students over the age of 18 may provide consent.
Dear WISD Student and Parent,
The District requires drug testing of any student in grades 7-12 who chooses to participate in school-sponsored extracurricular/UIL activities or requests a parking permit.
A parent/guardian or a student (age 18 or over) has the right to refuse random drug testing if the student participates in school-sponsored extracurricular/UIL activities or requests a parking permit.
Any student with a denial of consent to random drug testing will not be allowed to participate in school-sponsored extracurricular/UIL activities or be approved for a parking permit. If the student has secured a parking permit that permit will be revoked.
All drug testing will require for the student to produce a specimen for the representative conducting the drug test. Representatives will be part of a board approved drug testing company. The student’s privacy will be maintained at all times. All information will be confidential and will only be shared with staff responsible for administering the test, the student, and the parents/guardians.
If a specimen reveals an unexplained presence of drugs or alcohol, the District may withdraw the privileges of participating in extracurricular/UIL activities and parking privileges.
Any student who has provided consent to random drug testing has a right at the time of testing to refuse the test: however, he/she will be automatically considered to have a positive test resulting in the appropriate suspension or removal from the participation of a school-sponsored extracurricular/UIL activities or parking privileges on campus for a full calendar year.
Additional information for drug testing can be located in the Weslaco ISD Board Policy FNF (Local), Student Rights and Responsibilities, Interrogations and Searches.
We the parents/guardians of the above stated student, acknowledge that we have reviewed this request and understand that additional information can be found in Board Policy FNF (Local). We understand that random drug testing is a new mandate approved by the WISD School Board in Spring of 2018.
